Job description...

Welcome

I am the Director of the ICAS Foundation. I took on the role a year and a half ago and have since had the privilege of witnessing the incredible impact of our work and the dedication of our team.

As the profession has progressed in these last 10 years, it’s become crucial to recognise and foster social mobility. And by that, I mean the ability for individuals to move up the socio-economic ladder regardless of their background, and especially in our case based on merit. Social mobility isn’t just about fairness; its an essential driver of an inclusive society. It makes workplaces stronger and more competitive by having greater diversity, allowing for broader skills and ideas, and is closely linked to innovation and economic growth.

Every year we receive more and more applications to our programme from young people. Last year 160 people applied, and we were only able to offer 28 places.

Our ability to offer these places is based on the success of our fundraising. We aim to raise enough funds to support around 30 places each year.

Our goal is to close the gap and in the next 6 years move up to support around 80 new students each year.

To do this we need more people within the profession to support our work and that’s typically via donations.

Finally, that leads to you and why we are embarking upon the recruitment of a new team to help us deliver the change we want to make. I am seeking those who have a passion to improve the lives of others and are keen to bring their skills to a relatively young charity with an ambitious growth plan for the future!

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sanjay Singh

Foundation Director

The ICAS Foundation is ICAS’ social mobility charity, created 10 years ago to deliver our mission to see an Accountancy profession without unnecessary barriers to entry, where every talented young person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity and support to pursue a successful career in the Accountancy profession.

Since we were established, the ICAS Foundation has supported:

Over 300 young people to go on to University from School or College to study an Accountancy or Finance related degree course.

We have awarded over £2.3m in bursary funding to young people, to support them with the cost of living and study materials.

100% of ICAS Foundation students come from low-income backgrounds.

97% of those who graduate from our programme, do so with a 2:1 or above and just shy of 70% went on to successfully secure a training contract to become a Chartered Accountant.

In fact, we now have newly qualified CA’s who have been through the ICAS Foundation programme, now volunteering with us as Mentors, helping those new and aspiring young people to achieve the same.

We run a successful internship and graduate placement programme in partnership with Accountancy Firms, who are as committed as we are to ensuring the profession is as accessible as it can be for talented young people.

We ask students who are finishing school and aspire to go onto to University to study accountancy or finance related degree to apply to our ‘Nurturing Talent Programme’.

This programme includes:

1.       A financial bursary – £2500 per year for up to 4 years

2.       A mentor – 121 for the whole time and usually a CA.

3.       Support to gain internships and work experience placements and Grad roles support

4.       This year the introduction of employability skills training – CV writing, networking skills, public speaking etc…

5.       Experiences – like mock interviews with feedback from firms
